CT

My OB's office just called about my CT scan.

"A small cyst or growth" on the right side of my brain. Now I need an MRI.

I feel mostly like I'm going to throw up. Or maybe go ahead and have that nervous breakdown.

Seriously? Is it possible for all of this to happen to one person? I mean... if I were on the outside, I would think this was all bullshit. This is just too much.

I just got off to phone to schedule the MRI. They haven't gotten the order yet. She says it's probably in the fax machine's memory and will come through in 2 hours (!?) and they'll call me.

There's still the possibility that this is not something serious. Just something normal in MY brain. But I could have used some different news.

Oh, and btw, they don't think this relates to my head numbness. So I have a cyst AND unexplained head numbness.

I don't have an update on Robbie yet. I'll let you know when I know.

Trish

That sucks, but please please please try to relax until you know more. This may sound odd, but small cysts or growths in the brain are actually more common than you may think, many of them can be safely ignored, and the vast majority are infinitely treatable.

More than 10 years ago, my mother was treated for a large (benign) brain tumor. The whole family was freaked out, but everything went very well, and she has zero lasting effects from it. Since then, I have met a ton of people who have had similar experiences (including several more family members). I never realized how common it was! And everyone confirms: it's scary when it happens (I mean, it's your BRAIN!) but in the grand scheme, a whole heck of a lot easier to deal with than most medical problems.

So, I know it's hard, and you're dealing with a whole lot of crap right now, but try not to freak out about this particular thing until you know more. Best of luck!

Oh Trish, Im so sorry. If its any comfort, I actually have a cyst that was found during an MRI (for something totally different) and it turned out to be not serious. My dr. told me that people can have one of these cysts all their life and never know. I asked if it could cause problems and was told that in a rare case it could eventually need to be removed, but it was highly unlikely. I was just to come back in if I ever had any ongoing severe headaches that didn't go away after a few weeks. He also assured me that removal was an easy surgery. This was five years ago and I haven't even thought of it since then.

Shit, Trish. I am so sorry that all of this is happening!

I do hope that Robbie's scan was clear and that whatever it is that they found today is just the way your brain is.

Hang in there. Sending all my positive vibes your way...
