update

A small update, in the right direction.

I spoke w/Robbie's day nurse a few minutes ago.

His repeat CBC was about the same. From what she says, it's very, very slightly off. She said if he hadn't exhibited other signs (namely the blood sugar) they wouldn't have treated him at all. And the signs he has could actually be cold stress and he got QUITE cold during Kangaroo care.

She said he's alert, active and happy this morning so that whatever is going on hasn't affected him too much, so that's a good sign.

All his other bloodwork from the morning looked good as well.

So right now we're hoping it was cold stress and is resolving on its own.

We do know that we will have to be super careful about holding him for a while- probably not doing it at all. I did a bit of reading in my panic this morning and there seems to be mostly positive opinions that even just touching him in good ways can benefit him as well.. so I will probably just opt to keep my hands on him as much as possible. It's not as good and skin to skin care, but it's something. And keeping his warm is the bigger priority right now.

I am a nestie at 23 weeks who just happened to stumble upon your story and then your blog. I just want to tell you you what a strong woman I think you are and how I can just feel the love you have for your son through your words. I am having a boy too and I tear up every day just a little bit reading your blog. It sounds like your son has an amazing team right there watching his health every minute and I hope you are taking care of you. I can't wait to see pictures of you and your husband taking Robbie home :-)

You know, I am going to have a party at my place when you take that baby home.
Thinking of you and your son often...

Trish, as you know, I'm reading your blog every day. I swear everyone on the Nest/Knot knows your story now. You have brought us all to tears. We are all anxiously awaiting the day Robbie gets to go home with you and your husband!

I am very happy to read things are looking up. My daughter got three infections in the NICU. They all are depressing in the moment - especially the infection she got where we had to wear gowns and gloves. No skin to skin contact for more than two weeks. The NICU staff will always start antibiotics at even the slightest sign of infection, but often the test will come back clear zand then antibiotics will be stopped. Your NICU staff is totally on the ball and is taking great care of Robbie! I'm praying for you all every day.
